Horses 8 Sprint Throws Down the Gauntlet!

The 8th Annual Horses 8 sprint race is now underway. This year's competition is more heated than ever, with top sprinters from around the world vying for the prestigious title.

Leading the pack is the Japanese challenger, Tsukuba Win. He has been consistently dominant in recent races, and many believe he has what it takes to take home the trophy this year. However, he is not without challengers.

Hot on his heels is the American contender, Blaze McGoat. McGoat has been a consistent runner-up in past Horses 8 races, and he will be looking to finally break through and claim victory this year.

Can Anyone Catch Horses 8 Sprint?

The $1 million Eight Belles Stakes, a grade ii event for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up at 1 1/8 miles on the Churchill Downs turf course, is the marquee race of Saturday's program at Churchill Downs. The race has drawn a field of 11, most notably defending champion Rags to Riches who is bidding to become the first horse in history to win this race twice. But with several other solid contenders in the field such as Grade I winner Vineyard Haven and Irish invader Licata, it's a wide-open race.

Can anyone catch Rags to Riches? She's certainly proven herself at this distance and on this surface, but she'll have plenty of competition on Saturday. Let's take a look at some of the horses who could give her a run for her money:

1) Vineyard Haven - This Grade I winner has been knocking on the door of victory lately, finishing second in both the Diana Stakes and Garden City Stakes in her last two starts. With a victory here, she would prove that she's one of the best turf runners in the country.

2) Lady Eli - This talented filly showed tremendous promise as a 2-year-old, winning three races including the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf championship. However, she has yet to win in four starts this year, most recently finishing third behind Rags to Riches and Vineyard Haven in the Garden City Stakes. A win here would definitely get her back on track.

3) Licata - This Irish invader comes into this race with some impressive credentials, having won five of her six starts including two Grade I events. She's never raced on American soil before, but she seems like she has enough talent to compete against the best here.

4) Dreams Rey Gold - This filly comes into Saturday's race off of back-to-back victories including an upset win over Rags to Riches in the Grade III Brooklyn Invitational last month. She may not be as accomplished as some of the other horses in the field, but she definitely has some talent and could pull off another upset on Saturday.

Horses 8 Sprint - The New Champion?

The Kentucky Derby is an annual horse race held at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The race is a Grade I stakes race for three-year-old thoroughbred horses, and it is the first leg of the United States Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing. The derby has been run every year since 1875 with the exception of four years during World War II.

In 2018, the Kentucky Derby was won by Justify, ridden by jockey Mike Smith. Justify was a heavy favorite leading up to the race, and he did not disappoint, winning by two and a half lengths. However, in 2019 there may be a new champion in town.
